Runners along a scenic beachside esplanade at the Mornington Running Festival

There are many reasons to run. PBs, fitness, scenery, community. But rarely does a race include the promise of a free donut at the finish line.

The Mornington Running Festival gets it. Presented by Athlete's Foot and now in its 12th year in 2026, the event takes runners along one of Australia's most beautiful courses — the esplanade from Mornington to Mt Martha and back, closed to traffic just for the occasion. Wide open views across Port Phillip Bay, sea air, and some of the most scenic kilometres you'll ever run.

Distances include the half marathon, 10km, 5km, and a 1km fun run for younger participants. All finishers receive a medal. All finishers receive a free donut. This needs no further commentary.

Beyond the running, the event features live music, an expo, electronic timing, multiple drink stations, and a pre-run warm up. The fundraising component encourages runners to raise money for their chosen charity, with organisers aiming to raise over $30,000 for charities in 2026.

The Mornington Peninsula is one of Victoria's most beloved weekend escape destinations — world-class wineries, ocean beaches, and great food make it an easy sell for a running weekend away.

Tips for Race Day

The esplanade course is flat and fast — a genuine PB opportunity for half marathon runners. Bring sunscreen; the bay-facing sections have minimal shade. And don't skip the donut — you've earned it.
