The NSW 10,000m Championships is Athletics NSW's state title over 25 laps of the track, held on an October evening at The Crest in Bankstown. In 2026 it takes place on Thursday 15 October. It is a permit meet under Athletics Australia, so times count for state records and national qualifying, which draws a small but genuinely fast field.
There are two races. The championship 10,000m is for Athletics NSW members and decides the state title, while a separate Community 10,000m is open to everyone, making this one of the few chances a club or recreational runner gets to race a legitimate track 10k with official timing. Winners are often out on their own early: Josh Phillips took the 2024 title in 29:14, running solo for most of the distance.
Held under lights at a suburban track, it is a low-key but serious evening, and for many it doubles as a sharpener before the Zatopek 10,000m in December.
