Pat Farmer's Quicksand Australia is a soft-sand beach run held on Terrigal Beach on the NSW Central Coast, on 23 August 2026. Founded by ultramarathon legend and former MP Pat Farmer, it challenges runners across 2km, 5km and 10km on the energy-sapping sand rather than the road.
It is a novel, tough-but-fun event with a big-name founder behind it, and a genuine change of pace from a standard fun run.
Peter Brown won the 10km on Sunday 31 August 2025 in 52:10, three and a half minutes clear of Jason Tucker, over a lapped course on the soft sand of Terrigal Beach. Pat Farmer, who founded the event, ran it himself and finished fourth in 1:06:26. Dee Yusuf was the fastest woman in 1:06:58, fifth overall. Nine runners completed the distance.

Julian Dent won the 5km in 22:32, more than four minutes ahead of Matt Riley. Allison Tucker was the fastest woman in 36:54, eighth overall. Twenty runners finished, and the spread shows what sand does to a short race: the last of them took 1:13:15 to cover five kilometres.
