Runners at the Bridge to Brisbane fun run

Every September, tens of thousands of Queenslanders lace up their shoes, head to the Gateway Bridge, and do something cars usually do a lot faster: cross it. The Bridge to Brisbane is Queensland's largest fun run, a genuine Brisbane institution, and proof that running doesn't have to be serious to be a seriously great time.

The courses

Two distances are on offer for 2026, both finishing at the Brisbane Showgrounds:

  • 10km — Starting at the base of the Gateway Bridge, you'll run over one of Brisbane's most iconic structures before heading through Bowen Hills to the finish at Brisbane Showgrounds. The bridge crossing is the undisputed highlight — it's not every day you get to run across a motorway bridge with the city spread out below you.
  • 4.5km — Starting from Hercules Park, this course runs along Kingsford Smith Drive and circles back through Bowen Hills to the Showgrounds. A brilliant option for families, beginners, or anyone who wants the Bridge to Brisbane experience without committing to the full 10km.

Running for a reason

The Bridge to Brisbane isn't just a fun run — it's a serious fundraising event. In 2025, participants raised a combined $1.1 million for hundreds of local charities. When you register, you can nominate a charity to support and set up your own fundraising page. It adds a whole extra dimension to race morning when you know your kilometres are actually doing something.

Does it sell out?

Yes. Both distances fill up well in advance of race day. Don't wait until September to register — entries open months ahead and consistently sell out across both events.

Tips for race day

  • Savour the bridge crossing. The Gateway Bridge view is the money moment of the 10km — allow yourself a second to take it in. You've earned it.
  • September in Brisbane means warmth. Start well hydrated and wear light, breathable gear. Race morning will be warm by the time the gun goes off.
  • Skip the car. Parking near the start areas is extremely limited. Public transport into Brisbane is the recommended way to get there.
  • The Showgrounds finish is festive. Food, music, and a great atmosphere — stick around after you finish and soak it up.

Whether you're running the 10km for a PB attempt, walking the 4.5km with the family, or just looking for an excuse to run over a bridge you normally drive across — the Bridge to Brisbane is exactly the kind of event that reminds you why running events are good for the soul. See you on the bridge.
