What started as two local dads filling the void of a cancelled Brisbane Marathon during COVID has grown into one of western Brisbane's most beloved running events. The Heritage Bank Moggill Marathon — celebrating its 5th anniversary in 2026 — takes runners and walkers through the scenic hills of Moggill, starting and finishing at Westaway Park.
Fair warning: the organisers are refreshingly honest about the challenge ahead. They'll cheerfully caution you about "Mount Moggill" and the "lumps and bumps along the way." This is not a flat PB course — it's a hills race, and it wears that identity with pride. Train accordingly.
Five distances are on offer: the full marathon, half marathon, 10km, 5km and 2km fun run, making it accessible for the whole family. The multi-lap format creates a fantastic on-course atmosphere, with runners high-fiving each other on out-and-back sections and locals cheering from their driveways. Runner feedback consistently praises the friendly community vibe and excellent volunteer support.
The event is not-for-profit, with proceeds going to Bravery Box (supporting kids undergoing cancer treatment) and local community groups. Heritage Bank joins as major sponsor for 2026 — a fitting partnership given both share a people-first ethos.
The course carries both World Athletics and AIMS certification, meaning your result is officially recognised internationally. So while the hills will hurt, your time will count.
Do hill repeats in the weeks before the race — the elevation gain is real. Arrive early for parking, as roads around Westaway Park fill up quickly. The event is well-supported with drink stations and volunteers throughout.
