Runners on the road to Glenelg at the City-Bay Fun Run

Few events in Australian running carry as much history as the City-Bay Fun Run. Since 1973, Adelaide runners — and plenty of very enthusiastic interstate visitors — have been making the iconic journey from the city centre to the seaside suburb of Glenelg. More than 50 years of finish line photos. That's a legacy worth being part of.

The City-Bay is one of the largest fun runs in Australia, regularly attracting tens of thousands of participants. Whether you're tackling the 3km family run or stepping up for the half marathon, you're joining a genuine South Australian institution. There's something electric about running an event with that kind of history under its feet.

The Course

Point-to-point from Victoria Square in the heart of Adelaide, heading west through the suburbs to the gorgeous beachside finish at Glenelg. The final stretch along Jetty Road has fantastic crowd support, and crossing the finish line beside the sea is exactly as good as it sounds. Pack your swimmers — there's no better post-race recovery than a dip in the ocean.

Distances

3km, 6km, 12km, and Half Marathon (21.1km). Something for every level.

Entry Costs & Registration

The City-Bay typically offers tiered pricing, so entering early saves you money. Visit the official website for current rates.

Getting There

The start line is in Adelaide's CBD — easy to access by public transport. Getting back from Glenelg is equally simple via Adelaide's iconic tram, which runs straight back to the city centre.

Tips

The 12km is the sweet spot for runners wanting a solid challenge without the full half marathon commitment. September mornings in Adelaide can be crisp — bring a layer for the start line that you don't mind leaving behind.
