The Whyalla Running Festival is the northern Spencer Gulf's running weekend, held on the Whyalla Foreshore on 9 August 2026. Run by the Whyalla Harriers, the out-and-back courses are flat and fast, taking in the town's jetty, wetlands and beachfront, with a half marathon, 10km, 5km and a kids' 1.5km.
It is a welcoming regional event and one of the few dedicated running festivals in this part of South Australia, making it a good excuse to race somewhere off the beaten track.
Fraser Darcy won the half marathon in 1:11:28 on Sunday 9 August 2026, two minutes 12 seconds ahead of David Eckert. Tara Sims was the fastest woman in 1:38:31, 14th of 75 finishers.
