Inverloch sits at the tip of the Bunurong Coast, where the Anderson Inlet meets the Bass Strait and the water is a shade of blue that genuinely doesn't look real in photos. It's a small holiday town with a big heart, and the Inverloch Running Festival has quickly established itself as one of Victoria's most appealing destination running events since its launch. The courses are World Athletics certified, the scenery is extraordinary, and the community support from this tight-knit coastal town makes for a genuinely uplifting race day atmosphere.
The marathon and half marathon courses are based at the Inverloch Glades and follow the Bunurong Coastal Road — one of Victoria's most scenic drives, now repurposed as one of its most scenic running routes. The road hugs the coastline, with constant views over the Bass Strait and the dramatic coastal cliffs of the Cape Liptrap Coastal Park. The 14km starts at Cape Patterson for an even more spectacular coastal stretch. All road distances are World Athletics certified.
Marathon (42.2km), Half Marathon (21.1km), 14km, and 5km. The 2026 festival ran 28–29 March. A new event making its mark on the Victorian running calendar — this one is worth putting in the diary early.
Inverloch is about 145km south-east of Melbourne via the South Gippsland Highway and Bass Highway. There's no public transport directly to Inverloch, so a car is essential. The town has accommodation, and nearby Wonthaggi and Phillip Island offer additional options. Book early — this is a popular summer holiday area and accommodation fills quickly.
