Runners at Run for the Kids in Melbourne

Victoria's favourite fun run/walk isn't just about the running — it's about the cause. The Herald Sun/Transurban Run for the Kids raises money for the Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal, one of Australia's most beloved and longest-running charities.

Starting in Melbourne's Docklands, the 2026 event offers two distances: the 14.4km Long Course (for those wanting a proper workout) and the 4.7km Short Course (ideal for families, casual participants, and first-timers). Entry is $79.95 for the Long Course and $69.95 for the Short Course.

The event uses a wave start system to ensure safe and smooth course flow, with the fastest Long Course runners off at 7:30am and walkers departing progressively later. The Short Course Family Fun Zone gets underway from 10:05am, making it genuinely accessible for all.

With Melbourne's iconic skyline as your backdrop and thousands of fellow runners around you, the atmosphere on race day is electric. Whether you're chasing a sub-60 result or walking the Short Course with the pram, this is one of those events that makes you proud to be part of something bigger.

Entries often sell out — particularly the more popular wave start zones — so early registration is strongly recommended. Check the official website for current availability and zone requirements.
