Imagine the streets of Sydney's CBD — normally a chaos of buses, taxis and suits — completely closed and completely yours. That's the magic of the HOKA Runaway Sydney Half Marathon, Australia's favourite half marathon and a city running experience like no other. Run since 1992, it draws close to 30,000 runners through the beating heart of the harbour city each autumn.
This is Sydney showing off. The course winds through the CBD past the city's greatest hits — the Opera House, the Harbour Bridge, Sydney Tower — on wide, closed roads with stunning harbour views. It's a World Athletics-certified course, so your time is official, and the flat, fast layout makes it a great place to chase a half marathon PB.
Choose the full 21.1km Half Marathon or the 10km — both serve up the same closed-road, city-streets atmosphere, and every finisher takes home a medal. Perfect autumn running conditions, not too hot and not too cold, round out the package.
Part of the Runaway Marathon Series, alongside Noosa, Auckland and Queenstown, the Sydney Half is the perfect excuse for a city weekend — pair your run with the harbour, the shopping, the food and a recovery dip at Bondi.
The next edition is set for Sunday 2 May 2027. With nearly 30,000 runners, on-course entertainment, spectator zones and a buzzing finish, entries move quickly — register your interest early via the official site so you don't miss out.
