Chase a half marathon PB at Sydney Olympic Park

If you want a fast, flat, record-eligible half marathon in Sydney, the Sydney Half is the one to circle. Held each September at Sydney Olympic Park and featuring the NSW Half Marathon Championship, it's run on a certified course that's purpose-built for quick times — and it finishes in a way most road races can only dream of: on the actual athletics track.

The course

The course starts on Dawn Fraser Avenue, winds through the Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre, loops around the iconic Accor Stadium, and finishes on the track itself. Both the half marathon and the 10km are AIMS certified and endorsed by World Athletics, which means your time is official and eligible for records and rankings — exactly what you want when you're chasing a PB or a qualifier. There's also a Family Fun Run for those after a more relaxed morning.

Tips for the day

September in Sydney serves up cool, stable spring conditions that are ideal for going fast. The course is genuinely flat, so pace it evenly and trust your training. Getting there is easy — the train runs straight to Olympic Park station, a short walk from the start, so leave the car at home. Bib collection is at the Athletics Centre on Edwin Flack Avenue. Enter through NSW Athletics, and lock in early-bird pricing while it lasts. Whether you're contesting the state championship up front or chasing a shiny new personal best, this is one of Sydney's best chances to run fast.
