Western Sydney Lakes Marathon (formerly Run Western Sydney) is based at the Sydney International Regatta Centre in Penrith, the rowing venue from the 2000 Olympics. The 2026 event, on Saturday 21 November, adds a marathon for the first time — a two-lap 42.2km course through the Regatta Centre and, for the first time, the neighbouring Western Sydney Lakes, on what the organiser describes as a mix of paved sections and trail rather than the all-sealed loop the venue might suggest. It's billed as Western Sydney's only marathon. A half marathon, 10km, 5km and 2km run alongside it, all finishing inside the Regatta Centre.
Starts are staggered through the morning to beat the heat: marathon at 6am (six-hour cut-off), half marathon at 7am (four hours), 10km at 8:30, 5km at 9:30 and the 2km at 10am — only the two longer distances carry a cut-off. Elite Energy times the event electronically, with finisher medals across all distances and podium medals for the timed races. Entry (second-release pricing) runs from $15 for the 2km to $162 for the marathon.
The event isn't certified — Elite Energy's own listing describes AusTriathlon's involvement as sanctioning and insurance, not course measurement. It's a separate event from Elite Energy's Run the Bridges, also held at Penrith. As Run Western Sydney, the 2025 half marathon (28 September, the event's flagship distance until the marathon's introduction) was won by Matus Hujsa in 1:07:56, with Ashleigh Rankin the fastest woman in 1:34:39.
Run under the Run Western Sydney name, the 2025 half marathon on 28 September was won by Matus Hujsa in 1:07:56, with Ashleigh Rankin the fastest woman in 1:34:39, 18th overall; the marathon distance and Western Sydney Lakes Marathon branding arrived the following year.
