The Burnie Ten is the jewel of Tasmania's running calendar — a fast, friendly and fiercely contested 10km through the streets of Burnie on the state's north-west coast. Held each October, it bills itself as Australia's premier community running event, and the locals turn out in force to line the course and cheer.
The 10km course is World Athletics certified, making it a legitimate target for runners chasing a PB or a qualifying time — one of the reasons it doubles as a Tasmanian road running championship and attracts a sharp field at the front. There's also a 5km option and an 800m Kids' Dash, so the whole family can join in. Everything starts and finishes right in the Burnie CBD.
Cool coastal conditions in late October are ideal for fast times, so come ready to race. Online entries stay open right up until the afternoon before, but it's worth registering early. If you're travelling, Burnie is an easy drive from Devonport and Launceston, and a running weekend pairs perfectly with the region's food, coffee and coastline. Adam Goddard won the 2025 StraitLink Burnie 10 by a single second on Sunday 26 October, clocking 28:36 to Edward Marks's 28:37. Leanne Pompeani retained her women's title in 31:46, 19th overall. The race doubled as the Australian 10km Road Running Championships.
