Point to Pinnacle isn't your average 21.1km. Billed as the world's toughest road half marathon, it climbs a relentless 1,270 metres from the edge of the Derwent at Wrest Point all the way to the summit of kunanyi / Mount Wellington. It's a leg-burning, lung-busting Hobart institution — and the views from the top are worth every step.
The full Point to Pinnacle is the 21.1km climb to the summit. Prefer something shorter? The Point to Pub covers 10km and around 460m of climbing before — as the name promises — finishing near a pub. Walkers are welcome and start earlier, and plenty of participants hike rather than run the steeper sections.
Respect the distance and train your hills — this is as much a mental test as a physical one. The summit weather can be wild and cold even in November, so organisers run a bag service to get warm clothing to the top for you. Pace the early flat kilometres conservatively; the real work starts as the road tilts upward. Nail it and you'll join an elite club of runners who've conquered one of the country's great endurance challenges.
