Runners on the Salamanca waterfront at the Hobart Marathon Festival

The Hobart Marathon Festival, known until recently as the Hobart Airport Marathon Festival, runs each April along the Derwent River and the Salamanca waterfront. The 2027 edition is on Sunday 4 April, organised by Atlas Events, with a marathon, half marathon, 10km, 5km run, 5km walk and a 2km, all finishing within reach of Salamanca's cafes and Saturday market.

The organisers are upfront that the course rolls; "there are hills" is their own phrasing. It's run in the cool autumn air that makes Hobart a comfortable place to race. The festival is an AIMS member race, and earlier editions held World Athletics course certification (listed to 2026), so check the current certificate with the organisers if you're chasing a qualifying time.

Entry for 2027 opens via a priority list ahead of general registration, with early-access pricing saving up to $80. Bib postage closes in late February and there's no race-day bib collection, so sort logistics early. Hobart's compact centre puts most accommodation within walking distance of the start.
