Run Port Douglas is a road race in Tropical North Queensland that swaps the usual finish chute for the hard-packed sand of Four Mile Beach. The 2027 event is on Saturday 4 September, with four timed distances: a 2km run/walk, 5km, 10km and a half marathon.
The half is a single lap. It starts under the palms in front of the Mirage Country Club, runs through the main street, past the Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina and up Flagstaff Hill, then drops onto the beach for a final 3.6km along the sand. All four distances share that beach finish. The organiser says the half, 10km and 5km courses are now measured and certified to World Athletics standard.
The event has grown quickly, from about 1,500 runners at its 2025 debut to 2,500 in 2026. Olympian Andy Buchanan, one of its ambassadors, rates the half course the best in the world, and half and 10km entrants who sign up by 14 May 2027 get a free race singlet.
September falls in the northern dry season, so conditions are warm but manageable, and the race doubles as a reason to visit the reef and the Daintree.
The changes to the Half Marathon course now makes this course the best in the world!
Andy Buchanan - Ambassador
The inaugural Run Port Douglas was held on Saturday 13 September 2025. Cody Williamson turned the half marathon into a procession, winning in 1:13:19 with more than ten minutes back to Patrick McNamara in second. Kate Wheaton was the fastest woman in 1:25:29, sixth overall, sharing the same time to the second as fifth-placed Ryota Hiyoshi.

Luke Swindale won the 10km in 35:17, a minute and a quarter ahead of Walter Myer. Rebecca Richards was the fastest woman in 42:19, 13th overall.
