One of Sydney's classic fun runs, the Tradies Sutherland 2 Surf has been sending runners from Sutherland down to the surf at Cronulla since 1972. The 11km point-to-point course is a Shire institution, drawing families, club runners and first-timers for a friendly Sunday-morning dash to the beach each July.
Starting on Flora Street in Sutherland, the 11km route rolls through the southern suburbs before finishing at Don Lucas Reserve, a short stroll from Cronulla's beaches. It's an honest course with a few gentle hills — challenging enough to race hard, but very achievable for anyone who's done a bit of training.
The 7:30am start means an early one, so plan your transport — the train line runs to both Sutherland and Cronulla, making it easy to get to the start and back from the finish. Enter online in advance, though late entries are usually available the day before. Afterwards, reward yourself with a coffee or a swim at Cronulla. With more than 50 years of history, it's a genuine Sydney running tradition well worth ticking off.
