Sydney is the newest event in the Kokoda Challenge series, added in 2025 and returning on 19-20 September 2026 after a strong debut. The course runs through Heathcote and the Royal National Park south of the city, with 18km, 48km and 96km options.

The 96km is the serious undertaking here: a full day and night on the trails, mirroring the flagship Gold Coast distance and forming half of the series' "Peak 2 Peak" challenge for teams taking on both 96km courses in one year. As with every Kokoda event, you travel as a team of three to five and stay together the whole way, and fundraising for the Kokoda Youth Foundation is part of the deal.

For Sydney runners used to road races and coastal fun runs, it is a rare chance to take on a genuine team endurance trek without leaving the city's southern edge.
